My favourite New Testament scholar, Dom Crossan responds to the question “Is God violent.” In a week were more than a few fanatics have been given airtime to call for more weapons in the hands of more people, I find Dom’s gentle responses reassuring. If only we could convince those who would use texts deemed “sacred” to read them before they draw their own conclusions about what these texts say. If only we could begin to take these texts seriously instead of literally!
