In addition to Isaiah 11:1-10 and Matthew3:1-2, the readings today included Maya Angelou’s poem “His Day Is Done: a Tribute to Nelson Mandela“. I am indebted to Glynn Cardy for much of this sermon and we are both indebted to John Dominic Crossan and Robert Funk for providing historical perspective.
Thank you, Pastor Dawn. This may be the finest sermon I will ever hear. Your explanation on the mystery of our faith gives me a reason to keep on being a Christian. When the Episcopal Church in the USA finally gets around to updating its liturgies, I hope that “again and again and again” will make it into the Eucharistic prayers.
Thanks Mariane: We have been using “again and again.” during our eucharists as the proclamation of the Mystery of our faith for just over four years now. It has helped to move away from “end times” images so that we can seek the face of Christ in our neighbours. Shalom
